A Furry Future is in Store
By LaTonya Jenkins
The cement has been poured, the bricks have been laid, the sign is fixed and the veterinarians are ready. The North Carolina Animal Control Division Spay & Neuter Clinic will soon be "all systems go."
"For years the NCACD has had this vision of establishing a free-standing clinic, enabling members of the Wake County community to spay or neuter their pets free of charge," states the clinic's executive director, Simone McLeash. "We are elated that it has finally come to fruition. Now everyone can help us combat pet overpopulation."
To announce the grand opening, the clinic will hold a ribbon-cutting during Month 3 at 10 a.m. at the clinic, located at 476 Woofpack Drive in Raleigh. Among notables scheduled to attend are Raleigh Mayor Charles Meeker and Ray Scratcher, long-time animal rights advocate.
Sign Me Up!
Many anxious pet owners have already signed up their cats and dogs to be spayed or neutered in
anticipation of the clinic's opening. Lisa McClendon of Garner is one of them.
"I'm so grateful for this opportunity," says McClendon. "Pet overpopulation is such a wide-spread issue in our nation, and it affects everyone. I'm glad the NCACD has opened this free clinic, so all of us that own pets can do our part."
The clinic will be the only free-standing spay and neuter clinic in Wake County. For more information about the ribbon-cutting and other grand opening events, visit our Web site: www.ncacd.gov/clinic.
